Product Description
Your dream player with flawless, true-to-life picture quality and the ability to play virtually any disc! The Philips DVD player delivers your movies and music entertainment experience. 12-bit Video DAC is a superior Digital-to-Analogue-Converter that preserves every detail of the authentic picture quality. It shows subtle shades and smoother graduation of colors, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture. The limitation of the usual 10bit DAC becomes in particular apparent while using large screens and projectors. The 192KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analogue sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction.

Philips DVP3980/F7 Reviews

rated 5 out of 5 Afforable multi region up conversion player
by MDIDFAN from Lextown USA, 2010-07-25

My first up-conversion player and for the price and it seems fine thus far. I've only had it for a few days so I can't tell you how reliable the player will be. I've bought other Philips DVD players and they generally die with in a couple years or less, but for the price and being able to play both Pal & NTSC dvd's I feel they are worth it. To make multi-region just open the disc tray, press Setup then go to the Preferences menu and enter 138931 on the remote control, then you'll be able to choose any region but choosing 0 will play all of your worldly dvd's, so you won't have to change it for each dvd. As for picture & sound quality they are quite nice. Other complaints about the remote or loading have not been a problem for me. The player is light and slim set up is also easy. The player does get quite hot though. Bottom line if you're looking for a affordable up-conversion player this seems like a good one to me, I'm quite happy with it.

rated 1 out of 5 Horrible dvd player
by R. Wood from Machesney Park, IL USA, 2010-06-25

This is the (worst) dvd player I ever had, the worst product I ever had period! I went thru the settings a thousand times as I couldn't believe anything could be so bad, bad picture, bad sound. I had everything correct, even customized for my HD tv, all to no avail, grainy pic, rotten sound-it scared me at first cause I thought it broke my tv speakers it was so bad. Do not buy, unless you want to see the worst product ever released on the human race.

rated 4 out of 5 A good DVD player
by Dan Tanner from Key West, Fl, 2010-04-03

I purchased the Philips DVP3980 after reading other reviews. I have had no problems with it after one month of use. People wrote about problems with the remote. It seems to start slowly, but is fine after it's on. The player shuts itself off after a few minutes on pause. When you hit on or play it resumes wher you let off. My old player would not. Had a little noise/disc hum when I first ran it. This went away after a couple of days. I'm happy with the product. Picture quality is good. Sound clear. Would recommend.

rated 5 out of 5 Excellent DVD player sub $50! Region free
by solodex from Southern California, USA, 2010-04-01

I enjoy this slim DVD player, the video quality is excellent even upon close inspection. I can relive my old DVD movies again!
It's easy to use straight out of the box.
It has an LED display.
I also played discs from different regions and it works.
It's easy to enable all-region, no need for code hacks.
Amazon's prices can't be beat! 5 Stars!

rated 5 out of 5 GOOD FOR THE MONEY
by Patricia Repash from Bensalem, PA USA, 2010-04-01

I researched and checked prices on dvd players. I ended up on Amazon (which I usually do) and found this dvd player. I wanted an hd player this time, but some of them are extremely high in price and I didn't want to spend that much, so I chose this one. It's really a great dvd player! Attractive, easy to install. It has clear picture quality and clear sound. You can't go wrong with this one!
