The Real Deal

This the second 720 remote that I have purchased. One for each AV system (room). This remote is the real deal, purfect size, Great battery life, perfect feel in hand. Way better than the newer "hour glass" shaped models like the 880 or whatever. Takes a little learning but if you can think it, this remote will do it. A man cave staple.

Great remote! I have been using the Harmony 880 the past 4 years until it was dropped 1 too many times. I charged the bettery of this remote. I then plugged it in to the the computer, and had the Harmoney program transfer the settings to the my 720 and in 15 minutes it was ready to use!

Works as promised

The Harmony 720 delivers on the promise that has been made to us for so many years by so-called "universal" remotes: to be able to work ALL your devices seamlessly. This about the fifth such remote I've purchased but the first to actually live up to the above promise.
I own two of them and when one finally began to act up after a couple of years of intense use, I didn't hesitate to buy another. Logging on to Logitech's site and downloading my customizations allowed me to be fully up to speed with my new remote in less that five minutes. Outstanding!
The Best Harmony Remote

To make my Harmony 720 review more helpful and valuable, I will compare it with Harmony One and 880 - Logitech's best sellers.
The first Harmony remote I bought around 6 years ago was 880. I liked it very much and have been using it until recently I received a Harmony One as a gift. What a disappointment after all the hype. Don't be fooled by the new model release. I think it's a step or two backwards from the 880. It seems, that the designers of the Harmony One have no knowledge in ergonomics, usability, functionality, choosing materials, etc. Its touchscreen is useless. It has the worst button layout and ergonomics. It's impossible to operate if placed on a flat surface - it relentlessly wobbles. All the used materials are smudge-magnets. The buttons become squeaky. Finally it's unreasonably priced.
I have bought two 880 remotes new at the same price as the Harmony One and I thought they were worth the money. The 880 almost has everything the Harmony One lacks, but still it's far away to become a good reliable remote. It's difficult to get used to the buttons and some of them become unresponsive during 1.5 - 2 years of general use. I have to mention though, that Logitech promptly replaced them. All in all, the 880 is much better than the Harmony One.
And here comes the Harmony 720. I accidentally discovered this online searching for something else than the 880 to replace the Harmony One. I found a very good deal in one of the local department stores and decided to test it.
I opened the package and was impressed by the looks and quality. It is well balanced, has a clever button layout, the buttons are back-lit and rubberized (they are plastic on both - the One and 880). It has beautiful rubberized plastic backing; very bright and clear screen; it's the best looking; has the best ergonomics, and it's the list expensive among the three. I liked it so much, so I bought two more. One of them is going to replace the 880 I still have in the 2nd TV room. The other one is going into reserve, in case it's out of warranty in the future and Logitech doesn't have anything better to replace with :)
I can't provide any information on its reliability, as I only bought it 3 days ago, however it looks and feels very solid, so hopefully will last longer.
The only reason I am writing this review, is to save you time and effort in your search for a good remote, as it took me 6 years to find something, that I really like. Good luck!
