rated 5 out of 5 GREAT ENERGY SAVER!
by Christoph W. Strattan from Mountain Ranch, CA, 2010-07-25

When I purchased this TV I had no idea it had an energy saving feature that lets you turn down the brightness of the video screen or even turn it completely off . Now, I use this feature all the time in the evening to "listen" to music off the satellite while I read or fall asleep. It's great, and I'm not paying for all that energy and an "active" screen I really don't need or want.

rated 5 out of 5 Finest Picture Ever with a BD player help

This arrived in 2 days, faster than I expected and I love it! This is a wonderful TV. I used it for my computer right away and noticed a huge difference in heat in my room. This TV doesnt even get warm. Im so happy to get my old CRT out of my room in the summer heat this unit really shines. I was amazed how fast the stand screwed into the screen and all I needed was a phillips screwdriver which was not included. The cable included is an RCA Vid/L/R cable like the old VHS tape machines used. I'm shocked LG skimped on an HDMI cable. I went to Wal-Mart and paid $20 for a 3foot HDMI and felt I was used. The best HDMI cable deals are on Amazon, most are under $10 for the nice gold 6 foot. I can't believe how badly the brick and mortar stores are ripping people off for the HDMI cables. I saw one place wanting $40-$60 for a 6 foot deluxe HDMI cable, the deluxe part is the fancy packaging it came in. Do yourself a favor and get an HDMI cable from the internet. I talked with a person at Wal-Mart shopping for their HDMI cable and they said the picture on their HDTV was not impressive. I explained you have to use HDMI to get the picture. You can use an HD antenna on you coaxial cable input and get HD picture that way if your local channels broadcast in HD. I bought the LG550 BD player and was amazed how awesome the picture is in HD with this TV. The one Quirk I noticed is the power button on the TV remote turns off my BD player too since they are both the same brand. The play button on the TV remote works for the BD player too, so I stashed the BD remote for now. I ordered a nice HDMI cable from amazon, but it hasn't arrived yet, so I'm waiting to see how my computer will look using HDMI instead of the normal PC jack. I also like that I can connect to the internet using my BD player by connecting the ethernet cable to my computer. The BD player has Netflix and other things it can grab for me when its on the web. The BD player also up converts all DVDs to1080p so even old non BD Dvds look better. The BD player also lets me stream in HD movies from Netflix. The person I talked with at Wal-Mart was trying to stream in HD movies using coaxial connecting***bzzzzz*** it dont work that way sry, You have to use the HDMI connection from some device. I chose my BD player. I did mention using coaxial antenna gives HD too, but thats not cable signal, its airwave only. I will mention too, if you wanna pay cable for a digital cable box you can connect it to your BD dvd player using ethernet and connect to this HDTV via HDMI. I know people are planning to ditch cable altogether and run this TV off their computer. You can stream HD movies off Amazon if you have at least 1.5Mbps internet speed, but 5Mbps is recommended. I guess the plan would be to get internet from the phone carrier and say goodbye to cable. I will point out one last thing. 4G cell phones are coming out now in limited areas that can stream video to this HDTV easily via a USB modem, but I'm not sure you can use it directly on this TV. I'm guessing you can only use the cell phone modem on a computer. I won't be needing the cable or Bell phone anymore once I get a 4G cell modem.

rated 5 out of 5 Awesome LED TV

This is the first LG electronic product I've owned. The image is outstanding. The detail is hard to believe. A huge bonus is how thin and light weight this HDTV is. I use the free digital broadcasts and the signals come in great. I'd recommend and buy this LG HDTV again.
