JVC HD-61Z886 Reviews

rated 5 out of 5 Excellent picture! HIGHLY recommend!

I purchased this set for my parents and was so astouhnded by the picture quality, the cripness, the wide range of viewing angles - without losing quality, the surround sound clairity.... i could go on... that I had to purchase one for my OWN home!
The price and other site reviews was my main reasoning behind selecting THIS unit to purchase... and I'm glad I did!
The other reviewer sounds pretty disgruntled over his set. Well, just as any car can drive down the road & have a tire come in contact with a piercing nail, that ANY AND ALL LCD SCREENS run the risk of a dead pixel in it's lifetime, no matter WHO the mfg is.

Neither my parents, nor myself have had any probelms with our units.

...and I can not tell you how many positive comments we've received from people who have personally witnessed it's mind-blowing experience by watching this huge screen!

I would highly recommend this! JVC did a fine job with this one!
The remote and functions contained in the menu are very user-friendly, also, which helped my parents...who are not the most tech-savvy!

rated 2 out of 5 It takes only one fly to spoil the soup......

Let me tell you that, after having this technological miracle of LCD for almost a year, I can tell you will get the clarity, and picture as advertised by LCD manufactures. HD is astonishing! Regular DVD and upconverted DVD is also astonishing! I can't wait for True HD DVD players.

However, there is a big, big "HOWEVER". The big HOWEVER is what they don't tell you until after you purchase it, and this may or may not 'tilt' the scale on your decision to purchase. I leave it up to you, the reader.

(Read carefully to "picture" this) I happen to notice a dark spot, about the size of a 'nat' in the center of the lower right quadrant of the screen. In fact at first I thought it was a tini tiny bug, then I thought it was a tini tiny piece of dust. Then I noticed it was a pixel!

Now let me quote from the JVC HD 61Z786 troubleshooting guide :" Although the HD-ILA element is manufactured with high-precision technology, please understand that some pixels may be lost or permanently displayed "

I have one lost pixel. Just one tini tiny lost pixel. This was "NOT" advertised, and I can't honestly tell you whether or not this is a common problem to this, others or all LCD screens (CNET didn't mention it). So, as beautiful as the high def picture can be, (and it is beautiful) there is this one, eye catching, distracting, tini tiny black spot in the High Def picture.

So research carefully. Make sure, doubly sure, that the LCD TV that you decide to buy does not have a quality control issue. I spent over $3000 for a High Precision state-of-the-art-technology that has a tini tiny black spot in the high def picture and I'm supposed to "understand"?

Just one tini tiny black spot on a High Def picture. Think about that. $3300; Think.

As for me, I'm now looking into purchasing another to replace this because I tend to find that extremely annoying. Even after 11 months, it just can't, can't helped being noticed on a high def picture. I will point out the tini tiny black spot on the high def picture to the person who purchases this when I decide to sell it, to be fair.

Perhaps most people don't mind, but 'I do'. And, to hedge my bet, I will read the manual before I buy so that I 'don't' have a tini tiny black spot against an High Def picture on my next set.

Out of principle, it will not be a JVC. But again, you, the reader may not mind spending over $3000 for a high def picture with a tini tiny black spot.

So in that case, if you don't mind spending $3000 or up for a HD-LCD ILA that may or may not have a tini tiny black spot on an High Def picture, if you're willing to roll the dice for $3300, then this is the set for you!

And to JVC, if this customer review does not meet your expectations just let me say that after having spent over $3000 for a set with a tini tiny black spot against a High Def back ground, please understand.
