rated 3 out of 5 What movies does clearplay do?
by C. Pat Lamb , 2010-06-23

I was wondering if clearplay has the following movies to filter out. I might get one if these are on the list. I mostly want filtered out the gorest parts, nudity, and F-bombs.

Robocop
Robocop 2
The entire Robocop prime direactives
Terminator
Terminator 2
Terminator 3
Alien
Aliens
Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
The Host (Korean monster movie)
Predator
Predator 2
Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
Judge Dredd
007 Diamonds are Forever
007 The man with the Golden gun
Mechanical Violator Hakaider (I know it's a long shot but hey thought I would ask)
Clash of the Titans old version
King Kong lives
Terror of Mechagodzilla Classic media dvd (If possible, I would like to edit the "Fake nude scen" in the japanese version)
That's all I can think of for now. Thanks.

rated 4 out of 5 Good Player

I really enjoy watching movies knowing I don't have to hear fowl language or sex scenes thrown in for no good reason .And I have been able to watch movies that I couldn't before because of language and sexual content.I am very happy with this DVD player with the filtering system.

rated 1 out of 5 Membership Dishonesty
by M. Croft from Chicago, IL, 2010-06-01

Clearplay is a great idea, but unfortunately, they rely on dishonesty for their profit stream.

After signing up for the free 30 day membership, I discovered that my credit card was charged $7.99 the following month. When signing up for the service it was not clear that I was signing up for monthly charges to use the device.

Beyond that, when I went to the website to cancel my membership, there was no way to cancel the membership on-line. (Sounding suspicious already!!!)

I then called customer service and after navigating through the phone tree, finally reached the option to cancel the membership. I was told that I had to then delete all the clearplay filters that I downloaded with the free membership. WHAT???? In order to use the player at all, one must pay clearplay $7.99 a month??!!!

Unfortunately, this fact is nowhere on their website. The only suggestion of this fact is in the end license agreement when you download the filters, AFTER you have become a member. I spent a half hour on the phone with an uninformed representative, who unsuccessfully tried to show me how I could have know when I bought the player that I was signing up for a lifetime of monthly charges.

She then said that the company had "propriety" software (they she couldn't elaborate on) that would prevent me from using the filters in the future. This also sounds suspicious, since they have no way of remotely accessing either the filters or the device.

SHAME ON YOU, clearplay. You misled me, and tried to take my money without informing me. For a company that claims to be a focused on family values, this really is the height of hypocrisy.

Although I find the concept of clearplay interesting, I am dismayed with their dishonest business model.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

rated 4 out of 5 427 dvd and 747 hsmi dvd
by William Scudder from Dayton, Ohio, 2010-05-27

had lots of frustrating problems with the now discontinued 427 and just recieved the new 747 HDMI. Have only shown three movies on it so it is too early to tell if it will hold up. I would say it will take at least a hundred movies or more to find out if it will hold up. The conept is good. If the company would test the products correctly and get the bugs out before selling it to the public they would save a lot of problems and money and reputation.

rated 3 out of 5 Serious quality issues
by James C. Guthrie from Prairie Grove, AR, 2010-05-03

This is my fourth ClearPlay machine. The first one I purchased a couple of years ago just stopped working altogether. So, I ordered this "new and improved" HDMI model. It didn't work. We sent it back. ClearPlay sent us a new one. Again, it didn't work. I sent it back. ClearPlay sent me another new one. Finally, this one worked. After over a month of dealing with horrible quality issues, moronic customer service reps, and ridiculous delays, we have an operational ClearPlay machine. I like the machine, mostly. I like the fact that I can rent rated "R" movies and clean up the language, etc. The editing features deserve a B to B+ grade. Not perfect, not horrible. If you buy one, be prepared to send it back at least once until you get one that works.
